We Change Lives, Everyday

Sarvodaya Deaf and Dumb Residential Special High School in Jamakhandi began with just 3 trained teachers and 2 non-teaching staff in a rented building. Today, it has grown remarkably, serving 122 students with the support of 15 dedicated teachers, 30 non-teaching staff, and comprehensive hostel facilities.

Sarvodaya Mahila and Gramina Abhivruddi Samsthe (R) is a secular, non-profit, non-governmental organization registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act of 1960 (Reg. No. BGK-237/1993-94). Since its inception on 30th November 1993, it has been tirelessly working towards creating a healthy and enlightened society.

Our Sarvodaya Deaf-Dumb Residential School, located at Jamakhandi, Bagalkot, offers primary and higher primary education for hearing-impaired children. Currently, we serve around 122 deaf and dumb children from five surrounding districts, many of whom have additional needs. We provide a safe, nurturing space where these children can learn, grow, and be part of a diverse, multilingual Deaf community.

We advocate for the rights of every deaf and dumb child to live with respect and dignity, enjoying equal opportunities through education. Our goal is to ensure that they have total access to communication, education, protection, equality, and the knowledge needed to reach their full potential.

Key Factors

We envision a society where deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals are fully empowered, educated, and integrated. Education, to us, is the process of awakening, strengthening, and guiding the faculties of mind and body, preparing them to serve effectively in life. Recognizing that intellectual development for the deaf is uniquely challenging, our vision is to provide tailored educational interventions that help awaken dormant faculties and enable every deaf child to flourish as a capable, respected member of society.

We also aim to shift perceptions — moving away from outdated terms and misconceptions — and ensure that our institutions are seen as centers of learning, not charity, driven by educational values and not merely welfare.

Our mission is to bring language and communication into the lives of deaf children and their families, enabling them to engage in meaningful conversations with the world around them. We strive to support the holistic development of hearing and speech-impaired children through sign language, specialized training, and education, building their self-confidence to pursue careers that match their skills and aspirations.

  • To provide quality, specialized education that meets the unique learning needs of deaf and dumb (hearing and speech impaired) students.

  • To develop communication skills through sign language, speech therapy, and tailored instruction, enabling students to connect with the world around them.

  • To build confidence and self-reliance, helping each child discover their strengths and pursue meaningful careers and independent lives.

  • To foster social and emotional growth by creating a safe, inclusive environment where students feel valued, respected, and supported.

  • To offer vocational training and life skills that prepare students for future employment and daily living with dignity and pride.

  • To raise community awareness about deafness, promoting inclusion and changing perceptions so that every child receives respect and equal opportunity.
